Meeting Summary
Prof Mike Faborode chaired and anchored the meeting. He acknowledged the submissions of the signed declaration forms and reported that it has been forwarded and onboarded to the EU platform. NCPs were encouraged to be dedicated and committed to the assignment to help enhance the performance of Nigeria in the Horizon-EU project.
Prof Ayodele Ajayi spoke about a proposed physical meeting/training for next month to be held at Unilag tentatively, details would be confirmed within the next two weeks and all necessary information passed across.
Each NCP should be familiar with the Horizon Europe website, which contains information and updates regarding upcoming calls for proposals, requirements and names of all NCPs in their respective thematic areas.
All NCPs should be preparing for the upcoming calls in the months of September and October, once the training has been done, it would help the various Nigerian research teams fulfill their opportunities to participate.
The only thing outstanding are expression of interests, which the EU has taken sole responsibility for the selections due to better insights/knowledge on where Nigerian researchers have higher chances of success.
Prof. Mike Faborode urged NCPs to look forward to the training, as it is of utmost importance to know how to access calls and also network with potential researchers. He advises that there should be alliances with private sectors and industries to create more impact on national development.
The secretariat should guide the NCPs on how to effectively navigate the website so as to have access to all necessary information needed for their assignments.
Questions Raised in the Meeting:
Dr. Maruf Sanni:
- His name was not found under the right thematic area (on the website).
- Are the Nigerian NCPs listed on the directory on the EU website?
Prof Ayodele assures him that updates are ongoing on the NCP list and will be uploaded on both websites in due time.
Dr. Matthew Adepoju:
- Requested for updates and notifications on the WhatsApp group so as to actively follow information.
Prof Ayodele also assures that more information would be passed across on all social media platforms and also advises NCPs to share updates recieved on their numerous academic/ research networks and platforms, most especially to Nigerian researchers in the diaspora.
Adriano Mauro/Trestini:
- Expresses happiness to be in alignment with the community.
